Ferret Myths
Ferrets are wild animals
One common misconception is that ferrets are wild animals. Ferrets have been domesticated for over 2,000 years. Ferrets are in the same family as their nondomesticated cousins (minks and polecats.)
Ferrets have rabies
There have been studies that show it’s very difficult for a ferret to catch rabies; in the isolated incidents when this happens the animal usually dies very quickly, which prevents the spread of the disease. A ferret rabies vaccine exists that has been proven to be effective.
